| Which Canadian Skiing / Mountain-biking resort should I work in for a full year, Whistler Blackcomb or Fernie? Hi guys, im planning working both summer and winter seasons at either Whistler Blackcomb or Fernie. My mates are heading to Whistler but I have the option of working in a Bike/Ski Shop in fernie. | I've been to Blackcomb, but I haven't been to the other resort. I have been to both towns though, and I much prefer Whistler. That's just my opinion though. Maybe you'd have a better time with your friends along though. Some people have trouble starting out on their own in a new place; sometimes it's nice to have along someone you already know. |

| As a combined package there is nothing to outrank it. Some resorts may have a better party area or more ambiance but they are lacking in the overall skiing. The ones that might have a little better skiing slopes lack the ambiance and party town area that is at Whistler. Total experience there is none in North America that is better in all respects. There are very few runs in North America with a mile of vertical but Blackcomb has it and Whistler is just shy of that distance. The snow is good in one area, the Park and Fall is good and the powder is up or the groomers are ripping. There just are no areas better and very few even close to it. |

| The glaciers are usually open until then. The main slopes close in late April, for Whistler and May, for Blackcomb. Snow and customers get thin by then. |

| no . in the summer it turns into a high end golf resort . the time to go is asap . since the olympics are there in2010 . traffic holdups for road conditions and upgrading , along with price increase in 2009 , and after the olympics price sky high .. ther are great ski areas in british colombia . the best kept secret is manning park n. 100 miles east of vancouver . cheap passes , great snow , cheap accomadations . easier access than whistler which is extemly overpriced . the area is basicaly owned by the european buisness community , yes read detox in ther prices are sky high . road conditions and construction delays . having the olympics in b c is so far over budget at this point . they will need about 1 billion plus , to start paying bills . definate mistake but give it a whirl if you like . great area . |

| In a good snow year in the PNW Whistler may still be iffy before Christmas. There is snow making on many slopes but unless it is cold that is chancy. For the best party, Whistler, for the best snow, if I could predict the future I'd know what 6 numbers to play for tonight's Lotto drawing. | Actually, Whistler mountain will have to close on April 20th. They then open the bike park for the summer. But the great thing is that Blackcomb Mountain will remain open for spring skiing until June 8th. Happy Skiing! Hope this helps! |

| When most people talk about "staff accommodation" in Whistler they're usually referring to a building up by the Fairmont hotel which is mostly used to house Fairmont staff but there are plenty of staff there from Whistler-Blackcomb and other employers in the area as well. I've never actually been in there myself, but a friend of mine lived there briefly when he first moved to Whistler and, believe me, he got the heck out of there as fast a he could. It's very much like a college dorm - crowded, noisy, not a lot of privacy and, sadly, the residents don't appear to take very good care of the grounds. If none of that matters to you then by all means try it out as it's probably one of the cheapest options around. I do know that Whistler-Blackcomb has been securing leases on a few private homes around town for the 08/09 season in order to ensure that they have a good supply of housing for their staff, so you would probably be wise to speak to WB once you're hired and tell them you need assistance in finding a place to stay. They'll be happy to help you out. |

| The best time to go for Whistler nightlife is during the prime of the season. November is typically still pretty slow, unless you go American Thanksgiving weekend, but even then it is not up to full swing. Some of the busiest times are the holiday season, Christmas through New Years and Presidents Day weekend in February. But really things are hopping anytime during January through mid March and then things begin to slow down a bit. There are a number of clubs to choose from and many have been part of Whistler for fifteen years or more, including Savage Beagle, Garfunkles, Tommy Africas, Longhorns, and Buffalo Bills. Also the drinking age in Canada is 19. Don't forget there is also great apres ski going on at many of the clubs with live music including Merlins, Cittas, Garibaldi Lift Co. and Longhorns. I know the crystal lodge does 25 cent buffalo wings from 2:00 - 7:00 pm during the ski season. There is also a great Irish pub, the Dublin Gate. |
