| Don't forget electro shock therapy. What you are referring to above is called a labotomy. Typically a hole was not drilled into the skull. Actually a device much like an ice pick (and in some reported cases an actual ice pick) was inserted into the brain via the eyeball, right at the corner of the eye next to the nose. Hammered in, jiggled around and removed. The person in some cases was completely conscious during the process. Instruments were not necessarily sanitized and often times there were many people viewing this. One person was killed when the doctor left the pick in there, and moved away to take a picture. The pick fell over. Seems pretty brutal and gorey to me. |

The US Declaration of Independence recognizes that there are basic human rights that are inalienable, which means that they are inherent to ALL people, remember that the Declaration was written BEFORE we were a country, and before the law of our land was established. The US Constitution restricts the actions of our government in recognition of respecting these basic human rights. This recognition extends to whatever definition you might apply to torture, and whomever you might recognize as agents charged with "the gathering of intelligence," So I believe that there should be no form of torture allowed. |

The Republicans were in control and did what they wanted. The big question is whether now, with the Democrats in power, it is still allowed. I certainly hope not.
